Camille Claudel

Auden, schoolboy Marxist, writes that he "pardons" Paul Claudel, and doubtless thought nothing of his idol, Eliot, imprisoning Vivienne in an insane asylum for life, as did Claudel his sister. Hugh MacDiarmid, in a different context, wrote:

In spite of all their kind some elements of worth
With difficulty persist here and there on earth.
